On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an AtomicBomb on Hiroshima, Japan. The bomb was about the sameas 20,000 tons of TNT dynomite. The bomb destroyed thecity killing hundreds of civilians. While Japan was still tryingto recover this devastation three days later, the United Statesstruck again, this time, on the city of Nagasaki, Japan. Thishappened on Monday, August 6, 1945. The Enola Gay was aB-29 bomber with a twelve-man crew to make sure everythingwent as planned. The pilot of the plane was Colonel Paul Tibbets.He named the plane Enola Gay because that was the name ofhis mother. Just before take-off, the plane's nickname was paintedon its side.
